|Subject:||Xurrel detained by UFP|
Your favorite soap opera is once again interrupted by the shimmering logo of the Galactic News Network, along with the words BREAKING NEWS. This is soon replaced with the image of a handsome Bolian reporter wielding a PADD. He confronts the camera with a stern gaze as he begins to speak.
"Greetings. This is Filboid Studge, reporting live from GNN Headquarters, where we have just received word that Starfleet has captured and detained Geleck Xurrel, former Haradar of the Cardassian Union."
The Bolian pauses to check something on his PADD, and continues.
"The events that led up to this were no less momentous in nature. While Federation fleets began their assault on Cardassian targets, Starfleet flagship the USS James Maxwell ferried Ambassador Mango Rosemilk to Garskau Nor, where she exchanged hails with Chief Legate Danel. Following negotiation, Danel acquiesced to the Federation's demands and turned over the disgraced Xurrel to Federation custody. He then ordered all Cardassian ships to power down their weapons or face attack. Most of the vessels complied, and those that didn't were summarily taken down by Starfleet. In one battle, the Maxwell suffered major hull damage, but for the most part Starfleet came through unscathed."
War footage ensues. The grainy image of a Sovereign-class vessel swooping past a Cardassian Galor-class cruiser, followed by a blast of phaser fire roasting a Hideki fighter. Then a portrait of a Cardassian man snaps onto the screen, identified by a caption as Former Haradar Xurrel.
"Xurrel currently occupies a cell on board the USS James Maxwell and will soon be delivered to Federation space for his trial," explains the reporter in voiceover. "Among other accusations, the former Haradar is charged with deliberately harboring terrorists - the terrorists responsible for the now infamous Seldakor Incident. His will no doubt be considered the trial of the century."
At this, the screen zips back to Filboid Studge, who stops consulting his PADD in favor of grimacing once again at the camera.
"Needless to say, Xurrel's capture has enormous implications for the Cardassian Union, along with the galaxy as a whole. The CU is currently leaderless, and its future is uncertain. However, it is likely that the UFP will remain heavily involved in CU affairs from here on. So far neither the CU nor the UFP have released an official statement. Relations between the two governments seem to be at a standstill.
"The fighting has ended, but has peace truly been restored? And if so, for how long? The answers to these questions are anyone's guess. This has been Filboid Studge for GNN Breaking News. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming."
"Oh, Ziflok!" Gzhrbma moans, taking his Benzite lover in his arms. "You know I would propose to you, but my species' marriage rituals are incompatible with your species' unique biology!"
Ziflok gazes into her lover's eyes with dramatic intensity. "I know our love will prevail, for it is stronger than any nitrous gas!" she fervently declares.
